Newcomer Women Group

Over time the YMCA has developed some programs specifically to address the needs of Newcomer Women.  At the YMCA we believe that connecting with others will make you stronger and make your community stronger and that's good for everyone. 

YMCA programs for Newcomer Women are designed to so that the participants make new connections, learn new skills, improve language skills and gain self-confidence. The YMCA has been a provider of settle services to newcomers since 1985 and has expanded to offer a broad spectrum of programs and services to immigrants and newcomers in Waterloo Region.

Programs that are offered for Newcomer Women:

Investing in Women's Futures

A Pre-Employment and Life Skills Program with three components that include: Industrial Sewing Training, Computer Training and Individual Counselling. This program is funded by the Ontario Women's Directorate and is open to all women that can work in Canada.  Registration is required, but there is no cost to participate.


Investing in Women's Futures eCommerce

Investing in Women’s Futures Ecommerce program will provide women with an end-to-end training and practical skills to create their own on-line enterprise.


Mother's Support Groups in School

These groups are offered in partnership with the local school boards and are located at elementary and secondary schools.  These groups support parents to learn more about the education system, meet other parents and to become more engaged in their children's school community.  These groups are at no cost to participate but please register with your School Settlement Worker.


Healthy Women Together

This online program is designed for newcomer women to share experiences, learn new skills, develop healthy habits for physical and mental health, and to connect with the community.
