Babysitting Course - Red Cross affiliated

Rights and responsiblities, caring for the child, child development and behavioural problems, nutrition, safety and basic first aid, handling emergencies, sick child, games and play activities, and children with special needs. We ask that the kids bring a lunch and a doll or stuffed animal.

YMCA Youth Leadership Development

L.E.A.D and Learning Leaders

Goals of the Program

The YMCA of Cambridge Leadership  programs seek to provide opportunities for youth to learn about themselves, others and the world around them in a safe and supportive environment that fosters their personal leadership capacity. 

  • Develop leadership skills through hands-on experiential learning
  • Develop employment and volunteer skills                                                                                                                
  • Increase self awareness of abilities and assets
  • Interact with Youth who have similar community interests 
  • Create an understanding of the YMCA values (acceptance, caring, health, respect and responsibility)
  • Develop community awareness
  • Fun!            


L.E.A.D. (Leadership Excellence Asset Development - Ages 13-18 years, secondary school)

Build your leadership skills and develop the confidence you need to be an effective leader.  LEAD is mandatory training for YMCA youth volunteers in camps and programs. This is a 12 week certificate program & 100% attendance is strongly recommended.

Tuesdays 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Course Fee:  $45 (plus HST)

Refer to our camp page for a fast track camp opportunity to gain your certificate in one week.


Leadership (Ages 13-18 years, secondary school)

A more advanced look at leadership concepts. More opportunities are given for these students to volunteer in the community and at the YMCA (within programs and at special events). Recommended as a follow-up to the LEAD or LIT programs. Current Police Vulnerable Sector check required by the first day of program.   

Tuesdays 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$45 (free for YMCA Members).  Register at Chaplin Family YMCA. 

Students under the age of 16 years old are required to be registered in this program, or LEAD in order to continue on as an LIT with YMCA Day Camps.
