The COVID-19 situation is rapidly evolving. This is a new, and unprecedented, reality for all of us, especially those in people-facing service industries.  

As of Sunday, March 15 at 8:00pm we have made the following decisions in Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Stratford-Perth, Guelph and Wellington: 

ALL Health and Fitness facilities (gyms) – CLOSED until further notice 
ALL Camp and Outdoor Service locations – CLOSED until further notice
ALL Child Care Centres and EarlyON locations (Waterloo Region) - CLOSED until further notice
ALL Immigrant and Employment Services (Kitchener, Waterloo and Stratford) - Alternative services offered, please contact ahead of time 
ALL Teen Zone, Youth and Community-Based Programs – CLOSED until further notice

Our YMCA provides a broad range of services and programming to diverse sections of our communities – many of whom have been identified at an increased risk of contracting COVID-19. As such, we’ve committed to addressing this situation and basing all of our decisions with a people-focused lens. We’re collaborating with public health units and other leaders in our industries to make informed decisions that seek to keep our members, families, volunteers and staff healthy and well.  

Your health and wellbeing remain a priority to us. Please know this is a pre-emptive solution, a way for us to work with public health to try to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. During this shutdown, we’ll be committing to a deep clean of our facilities.  

Know that while we’re closing some of our buildings during this time, your Y isn’t going anywhere. We continue to explore ways for us to be here for you – both during these unprecedented times and beyond. You may be wondering how you can best help us at this time, and to that we say be ready to come back to us when we reopen.

Immigrant Services

In response to COVID-19, we are working remotely while our office is closed to the public.  We continue to support newcomers by phone, email, zoom and other technologies.

When will you re-open? 

The government mandate for our facility to stay closed is still in place, and we are not re-opening on April 6. Our re-open date will be an informed decision made with the support of Public Health and our municipal, provincial, and federal governments. 

What is happening with my membership and fees?

Currently, all memberships are suspended, and you are not being charged any fees. When we re-open, we will automatically lift this suspension, there are no actions you’ll need to take. If you had placed your membership on hold ahead of March 15, your payments will continue to be suspended until we re-open, and you do not have to take any actions. 

How can we help?  

Many of our members have reached out asking how they can help us during this time. We’re blown away by this generosity. An easy way for you to do this is through the Virtual Y. To members who have already donated, thank you.  

How can members connect with other members to ensure their Y friends are safe? 

We’re not able to provide member information without their consent. We encourage you to follow us on social media (FacebookTwitter), and, once again, to visit the Virtual Y. It is also our intention to provide regular member updates during the shutdown period.
