Wilderness First Aid Certification

The YMCA Outdoor Centre is offering a Wilderness First Aid course in conjunction with Wilderness Medical Associates Canada. The course is designed to introduce those involved in back country trips, and outdoor seasonal staff to back country medicine and wilderness medical protocols. Specifically designed for the unique demands of remote settings, the course will focus on three areas: Treatment of injuries in a wilderness setting, care giving in extreme environments and weather, and working with limited equipment and provisioning.

Course topics include:
Patient Assessment System CPR Circulatory System Nervous System
Respiratory System Fractures Stable Injuries Splints 1-Extremities
Hypothermia Hypothermia and Heat Illness Near Drowning Lightning Injuries
Wounds and Burns Anaphylaxis Lifting Moving Extrication
Patient Carries Back country Medicine    

 


Participants must be 18 + years old

Date Time  Fee Optional Accommodation, with meals

Saturday, April 4 and

Sunday, April 5, 2020

8:30 am - 6:00 pm

both days

 $325 + HST per participant

includes lunch both days

 Friday and/or Saturday night

$50 + HST per night

  • Optional Accommodation - cabins with electricity and washroom facilities. Bring your own bedding
  • Hot lunches, and coffee and tea provided to all participants. Bring your own travel mug
