The Leader in Training (LIT) program is designed to help youth develop their leadership skills that will not only apply in a day camp setting, but in all areas of their lives. This program is a safe, welcoming, inclusive environment where youth will feel accepted, find their voice and become engaged in their community. Youth will develop leaderships skills, build self-confidence, and improve their communication skills through team-based activities, challenges, group initiatives, games and mentorship opportunities.
The LIT Program can be a steppingstone to help youth build skills and transition from being a camper to volunteering in a day camp setting, and eventually into a day camp counselor role, or other leadership roles within their schools and communities.
The Day Camp LIT Program is a two-week leadership program with 3 unique progressive levels. Levels are based on the age of the youth at the time of participating in the program. Upon successfully completing the two-week program, youth will have the opportunity to volunteer at Y Day Camp this summer, as a LIT placement, if they so choose. For the placement, LIT’s will be partnered with a Camp Counselor and their Camper group for the week, they will help to support the campers, lead camp songs, games and activities.
In the Day Camp Leader in Training Level 1 Program, youth will be introduced to the basic concepts of what it means to be a leader. They will work to develop fundamental leadership skills, improve communication and team building skills, and build confidence in themselves.
