Specialty Sports, Arts, and Technology Camps

All campers who register for the following specialty half-day camps join us for the whole day, with a drop off time at your "home" YMCA between 8:00 - 9:00 am, and pick up time between 4:00 - 5:00 pm. 
  • Unless otherwise noted, most of these specialty camps are half-day experiences that take place off-site, and include transportation. Supervision is provided all day by our YMCA Day Camp counsellors, and most program instruction, where applicable, is by the providers at the site. 
  • Dance Camp, Video Game Design, Lego, Tennis, Junior Lifeguard and Junior Triathalon, stay onsite all day, and Dance, Jr. Lifeguard and Jr. Triathalon, have more program time specific to each specialty built into their day.
  • All campers registered in these programs spend a half day (afternoon, for most camps) at their "home" YMCA, for an action-packed afternoon (unless otherwise noted) of traditional camp activities including games, crafts and swimming.

Horseback Riding

Campers learn to ride, have fun and make new friends.  Activities focus on equine care including feeding, bedding, grooming and health care. Horses are carefully seclected to ensure safe, well maintained equipment in a clean facility with a qualified team. The week will wrap up on Friday morning with a riding demonstration, from 9:30 am - 11:30 am. Helmets are provided.

Video Game Design (on site)
Learn how to program your own real working video games from start to finish. In this one week camp, campers will learn how to create up to 4 different video games from scratch, which they will be able to take home and play with friends and family. This program will introduce basic computer programming skills the fun way! Campers will spend the morning in specialty program on site at the YMCA followed by an afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming.

Hockey
Steve Emmet, the owner of SCE has been involved in teaching, mentoring and coaching for over 30 years throughout Canada/USA. SCE Hockey is dedicated to developing performance enhancing programs that focus on empowering new and experienced players with better skills, techniques, and knowledge. SCE shows players how to build their passion for the game and further develop their on-ice confidence. Personal attention will be given to each player to develop their skills throughout the week.  

Horseback Riding
Campers travel by bus at 9:00 am to Windamere Equestrian in Baden for the morning, and arrive back at the YMCA around 12:30 pm. While at the stable, campers will learn about safety and ride horses, learn about and participate in the some basic care and chores, and other games and activities day. Parents are invited Friday morning to a horse show.

Cooking
Calling all chefs!  This camp is for children who enjoy being in the kitchen and are interested in learning basic cooking skills. Put on your aprons and get ready to chop, mix, stir, melt and bake, while being provided fun food facts, including food safety and nutritional information. (Please be advised that we can not ensure an allergy-free zone.) The Cambridge camps will be partnering with Zehrs.

Junior Lifeguard (full day, on site)
Have you ever wondered what it takes to become a lifeguard? Join one of our YMCA Lifeguards for a fun-filled and wet week of learning the "ins" and "outs" of lifeguarding. Experience and learn about the importance of daily lifeguarding routines such as: wearing a uniform, effective communication between guards, including whistle blowing and hand signals, shadow-guarding, making your own first aid kit, and taking a pool test. Campers spend the full day in program with a certified YMCA Swim Instructor / Lifeguard on-site at the YMCA and have the opportunity to earn their Basic or Emergency First Aid and CPR certifications. (Campers must be able to swim the full length of the pool.)

Explore with LEGO® (on site, morning or afternoon specialty)
Campers will enjoy an introduction to robotics and programming through the use of LEGO® bricks, axles, pulleys, gears, and motors. Create fun and interactive characters from Minecraft, Marvel Comics, Star Wars, and more!
