2021 Camp Update

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the YMCA Camp Belwood, Camp Ki-Wa-Y, and Camp Wabanaki overnight programs are cancelled for the summer.

While we were hopeful that summer 2021 would mark our triumphant return to overnight camp, there are still many unknowns regarding camper health and safety that pose a significant risk as the pandemic continues to evolve in an uncertain manner. Please know that this decision was not made lightly and your YMCA of Three Rivers Camping Team acknowledges the impact this decision has on your family.

Everything that we have learned at camp, such as caring, empathy, strength, and friendship will help us get through this together.

For more detailed information on this decision, learn more >

What’s Next?

Current CITs will have the opportunity to participate in a modified daytime version of the program at either Camp Belwood or Camp Ki-Wa-Y. CITs are welcome to transfer to the camp of their choice. Regrettably, this opportunity is not offered at Camp Wabanaki at this time.

Please let us know by May 10 if this is a feasible option for you for the summer and which camp works best--Get in touch with your Camp Director, or email We hope to hear from you soon!

Things to Know about Being a CIT

  • There is no cost to this program, CITs receive volunteer hours for their time
  • It is mandatory that all CITs attend staff training, as CITs are considered part of the staff team
  • CITs get to experience many of the areas that are important to camp and the CIT functions may rotate between: Being a CIT in a cabin, being a waterfront CIT, being a CIT at day camp (Ki-Wa-Y and Belwood only) and being a CIT in the kitchen
  • Once placement has been confirmed, more information about time off, role expectations and other general information will be shared

Covid-19 Program Modifications

Traditionally our YMCA overnight leadership training is a two-year program (LITs followed by CITs). At this point, due to Covid-19, the opportunity to participate in our month-long L.I.T program was sadly taken away in 2020. However, we are happy to invite you to join our second year hands-on, practical, learning experience gained at camp as a Counsellor-in-training (C.I.T).

Due to the limited number of spaces at each camp, we likely will not be able to offer everyone a placement for the entire summer. Once we have received everyone’s Expression of Interest, to indicate that you would like to be a CIT, we will be reaching back out in February to confirm the length of your CIT placement.

Given that 4 weeks of leadership training were missed in the LIT program, we will be spending a bit of time together online in the spring, before camp, to touch base and learn about some important leadership skills that will come in handy as a CIT. This is still being developed, therefore dates and times for this additional training will be shared with all CITs after placements have been confirmed.
