Director Message, Ki-Wa-Y Spring 2013

 A Message From

Camp Ki-Wa-Y Director, Caitie Wright

Hello Alumni!

It's hard to believe how quickly camp is approaching! It seems that the extended winter this year made it hard to wrap our heads around the fact that pre camp is already here.

This summer will be quite different for me as I will be heading on maternity leave in June. I'm so excited to welcome our first baby, but will truly miss the hustle and bustle of summer camp!

We are so happy with our pre camp staff, 90% of whom are returning, and arrived ready to hit the ground running. Their arrival is always an exciting time for us, as they help transition the site for the influx of pre-camp groups and summer campers!

2013 will be the second year of using our Health Hut, which was a great success last summer. We are eager to expand the offerings of fresh fruit and vegetables, and to use the feedback from campers last year to make it even better. This summer, we're also excited about opening the new program pod located alongside the straw bale cabins. With a huge deck, this building is beautiful inside and out, and we look forward to making full use of it this year.

We have purchased some fun new items for our online tuck shop. Check out our merchandise for you and your family members.

There are still some spaces available for Ki-Wa-Y overnight camp. If you know any eager campers, please feel free to contact me or visit our website at www.kwycamps.ca

We are looking forward to seeing many of you at our Alumni Day on June 15th this year. Bring your family out and enjoy a day relaxing day on the waterfront or doing some traditional camp activities.

As always, please feel free to join us for our staff auction during our training week. Every year, we accept donations of vintage camp clothing and other alumni items, and our staff and their parents also donate great items to auction off. Last year we were surprised by some of the items that fetched the highest amounts: a pair of old camp scrubs, a 24 case of Gatorade, and assorted candy packages! This year, we hope to surpass our amount raised last year, and we are eager to see what the hot items are this year. As always, we can't thank our young staff enough for their generous donations to the camp fund. It's always amazing to see how much this group of young people raise, all to help send more kids to camp. Definitely touching, but also a lot of fun, entertainment and excitement! If you would like to join us or make a donation, please get in touch. Thanks!

Enjoy the summer!
