Director Message, Ki-Wa-Y Spring 2011

A message from

Camp Ki-Wa-Y Director, Caitie Wright

Hello Ki-Wa-Y Alumni,

The spring season at Camp Ki-Wa-Y is off to a great start! Our spring staff arrived in early May, and are busy preparing for all the campers who will be arriving in a few short weeks. The wood chips are on the paths, the rain is turning everything green, the painting has begun, and each day, the waterfront is looking more and more ready for summer. I am excited and eager for my first summer directing Ki-Wa-Y!

This summer, we are continuing with all of the "tried and true" favourite program streams, with the addition of a new sports stream called "Shoots and Scores." This new stream will focus on fair play, skill development and sportsmanship in team sports. Campers will learn rules and strategy, and improve skills in the sports that they will learn and play during the week. We are excited to see the implementation of this new stream while helping with the development of future athletes!

A big thank you to Shannon LeMay who has worked tirelessly on two quilts to be auctioned during our annual Staff Auction held during staff week. If you are interested in bidding on these quilts prior to the week of June 27, please send me an e-mail, or consider joining us at the auction!

We are continuing to invest in Camp Ki-Wa-Y by replacing camper cabins with four straw bale cabins which will also serve as year round accommodation during the Outdoor Centre season. The straw bale cabins are coming along nicely, as is the construction of a new program pod, which will provide additional indoor space.

I want to thank all the friends and families of the Y and at the Outdoor Centre for welcoming me back to the team. I am looking forward to meeting the campers and their families this summer and to having a great year! As a camp alumni myself, I also look forward to meeting you on the Alumni Day or during our Open House. I hope you'll introduce yourself!

Have a wonderful summer!
