Ki-Wa-Y director, Nicole

Happy Spring, Alumni Members!

My name is Nicole Smurthwaite and I am very excited about directing my first summer at Camp Ki-Wa-Y. For those of you who do not know me, I have worked at Camp Ki-Wa-Y in various roles over the last few years. Most recently, I was the full-time Site Operations Supervisor, and prior to that I worked seasonally as both the summer Office Administrator and as a Program Instructor and Stream Director. My best wishes to my mentor, Caitie Wright as she and her husband Chris and son Ethan await the arrival of the new addition to their family!

I hope to see many of you at this year's Camp Ki-Wa-Y Family Alumni Day on Sunday May 31st. As in past years, we will have lots of activities for families. The ropes course will be open, and be sure to visit the waterfront where you and your kids can try out the new standing paddle boards purchased with grant money received from Gore Mutual. Click here to register your family for the day!

This summer's camp registration for Ki-Wa-Y is as strong as ever and I am expecting that we will have a full camp this summer. New in 2015, we have introduced a new stream called Survive & Thrive, which focuses on survival skills for the outdoors. Activities include fire building, shelter building, raft building, orienteering, and fishing. Campers will test their skills at the end of the week in an exciting survival challenge. (Remind you of any TV show?)

I am very pleased with the number of Ki-Wa-Y staff returning from last year, and I look forward to welcoming a few new faces as well. Ki-Wa-Y's staff "Spirit Award" is already on my mind and I hope to see many staff nominated and recognized for their contributions during this upcoming summer.

Anytime you are interested in dropping by Ki-Wa-Y, please give me a call I would love to tour you around and show you the latest and greatest!

Enjoy your summer!

Nicole Smurthwaite,
Director, Camp Ki-Wa-Y
